Build 106 highlights

One browser. One private workspace.

Astra combines everyday Chromium compatibility with extensions, visual AI context, and privacy controls that stay inside the app.

01

Extensions stay inside Astra

Install from the Chrome Web Store and keep extension actions visible on Chromium-rendered pages without launching a separate browser window.

02

Coherent language and tracking privacy

The native interface keeps the user-selected language while web-exposed language signals follow the public egress IPv4 country. Do Not Track is enabled by default, and direct non-proxied WebRTC traffic remains blocked.

03

Fingerprint privacy with challenge compatibility

Ordinary pages retain Astra's Canvas, WebGL, WebAudio, GPU, font, hardware, and language privacy protections. Authentication and security-challenge routes use Chromium-native surfaces so slider CAPTCHA widgets can load and validate consistently.

04

Visual AI context

Capture the exact visible browser viewport from the composer, including the current standard video frame, then review or remove its thumbnail before sending.

05

Rich technical answers

AI replies render scrollable Markdown tables, code, mathematical LaTeX, and chemistry notation, including common model-specific formula wrappers.

06

AI that can work with the page

Browser automation can traverse accessible same-origin frames, recognize contenteditable and design-mode rich-text editors, translate nested-frame coordinates, and verify that entered text persists before reporting success.

07

Less waiting on YouTube

When YouTube marks playback as an ad, Astra temporarily uses 8× speed and restores your content speed afterward.

08

X media, zoom, and native guard

X and Twitter use a persistent system WebKit session for macOS H.264/AAC playback. Image viewers include visible zoom-out, 100%–800% slider, zoom-in, percentage, and reset controls, plus native trackpad pinch, wheel, double-click zoom, and drag-to-pan. Astra also matches visible public handles against locally cached filtering and allow lists, then blocks only after an explicit Guard or Block click.

09

A local second brain

Astra stores notes and completed user/AI turns in an account-scoped local vector index, mirrors them as portable Markdown, and retrieves relevant context on-device. Memory entries render Markdown, scrollable tables, and local LaTeX or chemistry formulas; one or many entries can be exported as Markdown files. Expired conversations are summarized before their source records are removed.

10

Native links and legacy HTTP compatibility

General settings can make Astra the complete HTTP and HTTPS default browser. Web links from other Mac apps stay inside Astra, installed application links such as meeting SSO routes open through macOS after confirmation, and legacy HTTP pages use the in-app compatibility engine when Chromium cannot connect.

11

Your browsing history, preserved

Astra keeps browsing history in its persistent Chromium profile. Open or clear it from the native History menu and General settings, or press Command-Y to view the complete record.

12

Accounting-safe research

ZenMux defines the question, object list, accounting basis, time rule, scope, exclusions, and purpose before retrieval. It prioritizes responsible primary sources, preserves official terminology and reporting dates, prevents overlapping accounts from being added, and returns an auditable object comparison table.

13

Bilingual immersive translation

Translate readable webpage text inline while preserving the original. Astra processes up to four smaller ZenMux batches concurrently and writes each completed batch back immediately, then restores the original page with one click.

14

Evidence-aware YouTube digests

A contextual sidebar action turns available captions or audiovisual analysis into a structured full-video digest with timestamped chapters, supported quotations, key reasoning, and clearly labeled uncertainty.

15

Selection translation and vocabulary book

Translate selected text or look up a word from the webpage context menu in one pointer-anchored card. Results update in place, translations can be copied, and dictionary entries can be saved to the searchable vocabulary book with Markdown export.

16

Controllable X bookmark archive

Archive X bookmarks in the current signed-in tab without opening background tabs. Pause, resume, or stop collection at any time, preserve detailed post text and media references, then keep the raw Markdown locally or explicitly ask ZenMux to classify it.

17

Signed GitHub updates

Opening About Astra Browser checks GitHub Releases for a newer version. Sparkle verifies both the signed update feed and DMG with Ed25519 while retaining Apple code-signing validation.

18

Local prompt library

Save selected webpage text and automatically archive sent prompts in a private local library. Search and organize prompts by task, reuse them beside the AI composer, edit or delete in bulk, and move collections through JSON import and export.
